Ford has appointed Hau Thai-Tang executive vice president, product development and purchasing, as part of a reshuffle of its senior management following the appointment of Jim Hackett as president and chief executive.
Thai-Tang is globally responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s design, engineering, research and product development, as well as purchasing operations. He reports to Joe Hinrichs, executive vice president and president, global operations.
He most recently has served as group vice president, global purchasing. Ford’s global purchasing organisation is responsible for more than $100 billion in annual spending on production and non-production goods and services around the world.

Steven Armstrong has been appointed group vice president and president, Europe, Middle East & Africa, succeeding Jim Farley He is responsible for leading Ford’s European and Middle East and Africa business units, executing the One Ford plan to achieve profitable growth through a focus on new products, a strong brand and increased cost efficiency. He reports to Jim Farley, Ford executive vice president and president, global markets.
Previously, Armstrong was vice president and chief operating officer, Ford of Europe. In this position, he was responsible for many of Ford of Europe’s operations, including manufacturing, quality, product development, purchasing, sustainability, environment and safety engineering.
Hackett became Ford president and chief executive on Monday (22nd May). He is tasked with sharpening operational execution across the global business while decisively addressing underperforming parts of the business; modernizing Ford’s business, using new tools and techniques to unleash innovation, speed decision making, improve efficiency and more; and transforming to meet future challenges, ensuring the company has the right culture, talent, strategic processes and nimbleness to succeed as society’s needs and consumer behavior changes over time.
Ford also unveiled a new structure for its operations with Farley taking on the role of executive vice president and president, global markets; Hinrichs taking on the role of executive vice president and president, global operations; and Marcy Klevorn taking on the role of executive vice president and president, mobility.
